REQUIRED SCHEDULE:

Monday through Friday

10:00am - 1:00pm and 2:00pm - 5:00pm

Occasional evenings and weekends

JOB DESCRIPTION

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

This position is responsible for leading and supervising activities for Leisure Services recreation programs.

EXAMPLES OF WORK: (Note: These examples are intended merely as illustrations of the various types of work performed)

  • Present a professional image, in person and by telephone
  • Responsible for the detection and reporting of property and equipment defects
  • Ensure safety rules, policies, regulations, and procedures are followed by the public and employees
  • Responsible for enforcement of departmental rules and regulations, operating procedures, and policies
  • Assist in the planning, supervision, and coordination of participants and activities assigned
  • Assist in the coordination of set up, tear down, and clean up of programs and events
  • Responsible for facility and equipment appearance and cleanliness
  • Supervise and monitor participants at a variety of recreation areas
  • Perform other duties as assigned

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS - KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Minimum age of 16 years old
  • Ability to respond to emergencies in a calm and efficient manner
  • Ability to clearly communicate procedures, problems, and policies with fellow employees and the public tactfully and courteously
  • Ability to demonstrate techniques and skills associated with assigned programs and activities
  • Skill in organizing self and others; ability to self-start in discharging responsibilities
  • Ability to work a wide variety of shifts including afternoons, evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • This is an "At-Will" position: Work assignments and hours are scheduled based on availability, division requirements, and within the confines of the budget. Schedules and work hours are not guaranteed and are subject to change at any time due to division needs, budgeting, and staff availability
  • Knowledge of the facilities, equipment, and supplies required by the assigned area
  • Prior experience working with youth of varying ages preferred

Posting Information: Junior Daycamp Counselor (Seasonal)

  • This is a seasonal job opportunity. A seasonal position may be scheduled to work up to 40 hours per week for a limited duration of time (no more than 6 calendar months) on an at-will basis. Work hours, however, will be solely determined based on workload and availability.
  • This is an at-will position. Hours are limited and will vary based on the operational needs of the department. Employees in this position will be classified as seasonal employees.
