REQUIRED AVAILABILITY:

Monday - Thursday 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M.

Rotating Saturdays 1:00 P.M until 7:00 P.M.

JOB DESCRIPTION

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

This position is responsible for the supervision of the gymnasium, gym programming as well as the fitness center at the Summit on the Park. An employee in this classification is responsible for ensuring that all guests and members who participate in gymnasium and fitness center activities are provided with a safe environment and excellent customer service.

EXAMPLES OF WORK: (Note: These examples are intended merely as illustrations of the various types of work performed)

  • Monitors, organizes, and supervises open recreational activities in the gymnasium, indoor track, and/or fitness center
  • Promotes Leisure Services Core Values and provides excellent customer service; including but not limited to, greeting and interacting with participants and families in a positive and friendly manner.
  • Develops timely and effective communication strategies to encourage gymnasium activities.
  • Ensures participants abide by facility rules, safety standards, and schedules.
  • Plans and implements programming in the gymnasium.
  • Oversees the setup and break down of scheduled gym activities.
  • Administers fitness center tours, orientations and equipment demonstrations
  • Attends to guest questions regarding fitness center equipment.
  • Demonstrates proper lifting and usage of fitness center equipment.
  • Ensures the ongoing availability of programs to meet the needs of the community.
  • Reviews and evaluates high usage times, member participation and requests and reports findings to Supervisor.
  • Monitors and maintains gymnasium and fitness center facilities and equipment.
  • Communicates with parents and participants on a regular basis to ensure knowledge of schedules and rules
  • Responds to, communicates and documents emergency situations including but not limited to First Aid, Severe Weather, and Missing Child.
  • Assists with enforcement and compliance of safety program rules, policies, regulations, and procedures by participants and employees
  • Attends scheduled staff meetings as required
  • Stays abreast of all Canton Leisure Services communications including but not limited to reviewing and responding to email on a daily basis.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS - KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Minimum age of 18 years old.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Must possess a current, valid Driver's License with a driving history that does not create liability concerns; which include, but are not limited to, convictions for reckless driving, careless driving, suspended license or convictions involving drinking and impaired driving.
  • Considerable knowledge of Summit on the Park facility operations or Recreation programs required.
  • Strong knowledge of exercise and fitness equipment.
  • Ability to demonstrate proper lifting technique.
  • Must be CPR and First Aid certified within 60 days of employment.
  • Previous experience in dealing with the public in a mature and responsible manner.
  • Ability to supervise gymnasium activities and enforce gymnasium rules and safety standards.
  • Must have knowledge of, and/or training in conflict resolution.
  • Ability to plan, organize, coordinate, and direct recreation programs and the ability to effectively supervise subordinates who are engaged in those activities.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to respond to emergencies in a calm and efficient manner.
  • Ability to clearly communicate procedures, problems, and policies to fellow employees and the public in a tactful and courteous manner.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, customer service-oriented environment.
  • Skill in organizing self and others; ability to self-start in discharging responsibilities.
  • Ability to work a wide variety of shifts including afternoons, evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • This is an "At-Will" position: Work assignments and hours scheduled based on availability, division requirements and within the confines of the budget. Schedules and work hours are not guaranteed and are subject to change at any time due to division needs, budgeting, and staff availability.

  • This is a part-time job opportunity. An employee in this position can work up to a maximum of 29 hours per week year-round. Work hours, however, will be solely determined based on workload and availability.
  • This is an at-will position. Hours are limited and will vary based on the operational needs of the department. Employees in this position are not full-time and will be classified as part-time employees.
