This position is responsible for leading and supervising activities in schools, playgrounds, athletic fields, community centers, senior centers and/or recreation sites.  This position may supervise other Township employees.


EXAMPLES OF WORK: (Note: These examples are intended merely as illustrations of the various types of work performed)


  • Responsible for the safe transportation of program participants to assigned locations.
  • Present a professional image, in person and by telephone
  • Responsible for detection and reporting of property and equipment defects
  • Ensure safety rules, policies, regulations and procedures are followed by public and employees
  • Responsible for enforcement of departmental rules and regulations, operating procedures, and policies
  • Maintain accurate program, activity and equipment records
  • Responsible for responding to, communicating and documenting emergency situations and incidents, including but not limited to First Aid, CPR, Severe Weather and Missing Child Events
  • Responsible for efficient and effective day to day operations of the recreation site and facility
  • Plan, organize, monitor and conduct recreation activities for participants of assigned programs
  • Prepare facilities  and equipment for planned daily programs and events
  • Assist in the planning, supervision, and coordination of participants and activities assigned
  • Assist in coordination of set up, tear down and clean up of programs and events
  • Responsible for facility and equipment appearance and cleanliness
  • Supervise and monitor participants at a variety of recreation areas
  • Perform other duties as assigned




  • Minimum age of 18 years old
  • Must be able to possess and perform Basic First Aid and CPR (Adult & Infant) Certifications within 60 days of employment; opportunity for certification will be provided by employer
  • Ability to respond to emergencies in a calm and efficient manner
  • Must be educated in Diabetic Care and Monitoring within one year of employment; opportunity for in-service training and certification will be provided by employer
  • Ability to clearly communicate procedures, problems, and policies with fellow employees and the public tactfully and courteously
  • Ability to demonstrate techniques and skills associated with assigned programs and activities
  • Skill in organizing self and others; ability to self-start in discharging responsibilities
  • Ability to work a wide variety of shifts including afternoons, evenings, weekends and holidays
  • This is an "At-Will" position: Work assignments and hours scheduled based on availability, division requirements and within the confines of the budget.  Schedules and work hours are not guaranteed and are subject to change at any time due to division needs, budgeting and staff availability
  • Knowledge of the facilities, equipment and supplies required by the assigned area
  • Prior experience working with youth of varying ages preferred

Posting Information: Daycamp Counselor - Canton Activity Crew (Seasonal)


  • Must be available to work Monday through Friday from 7:00am to 6:00pm with occasional nights and weekends.
  • Applicants unavailable for 7 or more total days will not be considered.
  • This is a seasonal job opportunity. A seasonal position may be scheduled to work up to 40 hours per week for a limited duration of time (no more than 6 calendar months) on an at-will basis. Work hours, however, will be solely determined based on work load and availability.
  • This is an at-will position. Hours are limited and will vary based on the operational needs of the department. Employees in this position are not full-time and will be classified as part-time, seasonal or variable hour employees.
