Rate of Pay: $22.50 / Hour




This position is a part-time position responsible for leading enjoyable and safe fitness classes and/or aquatic fitness classes for Summit on the Park patrons.

EXAMPLES OF WORK: (Note: These examples are intended merely as illustrations of the various types of work performed)

  • Instruct and demonstrate fitness activities
  • Promote knowledge of proper group fitness components ( i.e.: warm up, aerobic exercise, flexibility, cool down, etc.)
  • Plan routines, choose appropriate music, and choose different movements for each set of muscles, depending on participants' capabilities and   limitations
  • Observe participants and inform them of corrective measures necessary for skill improvement
  • Teach proper breathing techniques used during physical exertion
  • Assists patrons, answers questions, and maintains a positive exercise experience for members and class participants.
  • Inform management of customer and facility needs.
  • Ensure that safety standards are met, and that department and facility policies are adhered to.
  • Provide a fun, safe environment for all participants.
  • Display a positive and professional attitude towards class participants as well as fellow staff members.
  • Dress appropriately and professionally at all times.
  • Responsible for finding a dependable, appropriate substitute, from the Summit fitness staff list, upon their absence.
  • Attend staff meetings as scheduled and assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


  • High school graduate or GED required.
  • Must possess current ACE, or AFA certification or equivalent accredited, nationally recognized or specialty certifications may be accepted to meet this qualification.  Approval of alternate certifications is at the sole discretion of the CLS Director
  • Must be able to possess Basic First Aid and CPR certifications prior to first class. 
  • Knowledgeable of the cardiovascular system and human anatomy including specific muscle groups. 
  • The employee must have a high degree of energy, be physically fit, and have the endurance to complete the workout. 
  • Strong interest in physical fitness and exercise promotion. 
  • Ability to clearly communicate procedures, problems, and policies with fellow employees and the public in a tactful and courteous manner. 
  • Must be willing to conform to department's standard of appearance or uniform policy. 
  • Previous experience dealing with the public in a mature and responsible manner preferred.
  • Friendly and enthusiastic personality. 
  • Ability to deal tactfully with the public and establish effective working relationships with other employees. 
  • Ability to be professional and motivate class participants. 
  • Ability to work a wide variety of shifts including afternoons, evenings, weekends and holidays and substitute when needed. 
  • This is an "At-Will" position: Work assignments and hours are scheduled based on availability, division requirements and within the confines of the budget. Schedules and    work hours are not guaranteed and are subject to change at anytime due to division needs, budgeting constraints and staff availability.

Posting information: Fitness Instructor - (Variable Hour)

  • Must be available to instruct classes Monday, Tuesday or Thursday from 8:00 am until 11:30 a.m. 
  • Must have WaterArt or AEA Water Fitness Certifications. Other nationally recognized water fitness certifications will need Leisure Services Director approval.
  • This is a variable hour job opportunity.  Hours will fluctuate week to week.  An employee in this position will primarily work during a defined season and may be scheduled to work intermittenly during the remaineder of the year.
  • This is an at-will position. Hours are limited and will vary based on the operational needs of the department. Employees in this position are not full-time and will be classified as part-time, seasonal or variable hour employees.
