JOB DESCRIPTION

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES
This is routine manual labor and maintenance work in a variety of parks and ground functions. An employee in this class works seasonally for a defined period of time during the calendar year. This position is under the direct supervision of the Park Technician or Irrigation Technician or a lead worker. The employee may also perform routine or repetitive tasks without supervision. This employee will spend most of his time operating power mowers and equipment.


EXAMPLES OF WORK: (Note: These examples are intended merely as illustrations of the various types of worked performed)

  • Assists in custodial and general maintenance of park buildings and facilities.
  • Performs general grounds keeping duties.
  • Performs manual labor, snow shoveling, and salting.
  • Assists in the set-up and take down of special events.
  • Ability to operate tractors, sweepers, power mowers of all types.
  • Ability to operate all maintenance equipment.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS - KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Graduation from accredited high school or its equivalent; or any combination of experience and training, which will provide the minimum qualifications.
  • A minimum of one full season of verifiable work experience operating power equipment such as mowers, tractors, or other equipment. Recent experience preferred.
  • Ability to drive a van or truck.
  • Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods of time, often under adverse climatic conditions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and establish good working relationships with the public and other employees.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Some knowledge of hand and power tools and the ability to use those tools properly and safely.
  • Knowledge of security practices assuring park safety.
  • Ability to work a wide variety of shifts including afternoons, evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • This is an "At-Will" position: Work assignments and hours are scheduled based on availability, division requirements and within the confines of the budget. Schedules and work hours are not guaranteed and are subject to change at any time due to division needs, budgeting constraints and staff availability.

NECESSARY SPECIAL QUALIFICATION:

  • Must possess a current, valid Driver's License with a driving history that does not create liability concerns; ie. Convictions or reckless driving, careless driving, suspended license, or convictions involving drinking and impaired driving.

Reports To: Golf Course Superintendent, with functional supervision from Irrigation Technician or another lead worker as assigned

  • This is a variable hour job opportunity. Employee's hours will fluctuate week to week. Work hours will be determined based on workload and availability. An employee in this position will primarily work through the golf season and may be scheduled to work intermittently during the remainder of the year. 
  • This is an at-will position. Hours are limited and will vary based on the operational needs of the department. Employees in this position are not full-time and will be classified as variable hour employees.
